How to correctly dilute car wash concentrates for optimal cleaning and cost efficiency.

Dilution ratio expresses how much water is added to a concentrate to create a working solution. A ratio of 1:50 means one part concentrate to fifty parts water. Getting this right is critical — it directly affects cleaning power, chemical cost per wash, surface safety, and biodegradability of the wastewater.

Why precision matters:

  • Under-diluted (too strong): Wastes product, raises cost per wash, increases pH beyond safe levels, and may damage paint or trim.
  • Over-diluted (too weak): Insufficient surfactant and chelating agent concentration leads to poor cleaning, streaks, and customer complaints.

How to measure correctly:

  1. Use a calibrated refractometer to verify concentration of the working solution.
  2. Check the dosing pump output regularly — flow rates drift over time.
  3. Adjust for seasonal conditions: in winter, heavier road salt contamination may require a slightly stronger mix.
